YRYS Concept

Project overview:

The architectural design of the YRYS concept was entrusted to COSTE Architectures, recognised for its architectural signature, its mastery of energy issues and its capacity to innovate.
- past projects include "La Bonne Maison", the "Natural Positive Building" and the "Maison Canopée",
- use of UHPC concrete (BEFUHP) enabling structures to be produced through 3D printing…

Building directly on its particularly innovative R&D strategy — embodied notably by the MFC 2020 Concept (a zero-energy, zero-carbon home unveiled in June 2012 in Lyon) — MFC reaffirms, with the launch of the YRYS Concept, its investment in housing that is ever more ecological, scalable and connected, combining well-being and health, and also taking into account questions of transport and mobility, etc.
Bringing together a pool of 18 partners — experts in their sectors (construction, energy, services and consumer goods) — the YRYS Concept delivers relevant solutions for:
- the comfort and well-being of occupants, in every season;
- the scalability and adaptability of housing to new lifestyles;
- a thoughtful environmental footprint with low CO₂ emissions (for both housing and transport).

Naturally fitting within a healthy-housing approach (materials / indoor air quality), the YRYS Concept is designed to be connected (smart-compatible) and intelligent (systems, equipment, vehicles), while remaining energy-frugal across all uses (with maximised self-consumption and the aim of a positive-energy home in every season).

Among the concentration of innovations already announced and to be discovered on YRYS by MFC:
- a world first co-signed with Lafarge for 3D printing of part of the structure,
- concrete blocks with built-in Airium foam insulation, offering excellent thermal performance,
- innovations for the foundations, the use of pre-industrialised concrete solutions (pre-walls and pre-slabs) equipped with RFID chips,
- a multiplicity of renewable energy production sources, including a photovoltaic roof complemented by a Smart Flower, a wind turbine for the production and storage of green electricity, and a wood-energy solution,
- an energy-storage system based on new-generation batteries with a low environmental footprint,
- a high-performance ventilation system, ensuring healthy indoor air, along with innovative and highly efficient heating and hot-water equipment, with a discreet design for perfect integration,
joinery and a glazed roof delivering very high performance (glazing, light transmission, etc.) — the source of optimal thermal and visual comfort (management of overlooking / preservation of privacy),
- vacuum insulation and high-performance glass-wool insulation,
- an innovative, technology-disrupting electrical installation,
- control of all equipment via a fully integrated tablet,
- connected sanitary and household appliances with intuitive applications,
- integrated multimodal electric-transport solutions for the entire family,
- predictive maintenance that does not require the physical presence of occupants, thanks to a dedicated service room that also facilitates home deliveries.
