Hôtel Le Superbe

Integrative // Saint Philippe

Hôtel Le Superbe

The project

Where the volcano meets the ocean

There are places where the earth is not stable.
Where it still breathes.
Where you feel under your feet the memory of fire.

In Saint-Philippe, in the wild south of Réunion, the landscape is not decorative. It is primal. Black basalt, dense vegetation, sea winds, vertical light.
Here, the Indian Ocean does not border the land: it dialogues with it.
It is in this raw territory that a rare refuge emerges.
A place designed not to impose itself, but to step back.

An architecture born of the ground

The main building unfolds like a mineral flow polished by time.
Its curved line embraces the topography.
Its volcanic-stone walls absorb the heat of the day.
Its light roof reflects the sky.
Visitors enter without a threshold, carried by the cross-flowing wind.
The gaze passes through the lobby, slides towards the horizon, settles on the blue infinite.
Nothing is spectacular.
Everything is essential.

The villas: inhabiting silence

Scattered through the tropical vegetation, the villas follow the natural slope of the terrain.
None dominates another.
None looks onto its neighbour.
Each space is a world of its own:
A warm-timber terrace
A private mineral pool
A bedroom open to the garden
A bathroom traversed by light
At dawn, a light mist rises from the vegetation.
At dusk, the volcanic stone becomes almost golden.
Here, luxury is space.
Silence.
Distance.

Water as a guiding thread

Water is everywhere, without ever being ostentatious.
In the private pools with mineral tones.
In the central swimming pool with deep reflections.
In the volcanic spa, where heat and coolness answer one another.
Water is not treated as equipment.
It is conceived as a living element.
Recovered, reused, respected.
A discreet, integrated, invisible cycle.
Well-being as reconnection
The spa draws on the forces of the place:
Warm stone, gentle steam, tempered pool.
The treatments combine Réunion traditions, local botany and contemporary techniques.

The edible gardens feed the kitchen.
The paths invite slow walking.
One does not come here to consume a stay.
One comes to slow down.
A non-demonstrative ecology
This refuge does not boast.
It acts.
  • Bioclimatic architecture.
  • Natural ventilation.
  • Integrated solar energy.
  • Local materials.

Virtuous water management.

Sustainability is not a marketing argument.
It is a starting condition.
A rare destination in the Indian Ocean
The south of Réunion remains one of the island's most preserved areas.
Less frequented. More authentic. More mineral.

This project offers:
  • A deliberately low density
  • A fully immersive experience
  • An ultra-premium positioning rooted in nature
  • A strong yet quiet architectural identity
  • A signature place, capable of becoming an international reference for responsible luxury.

COSTE Architectures signature

Designing here demands more than drawing.
It demands a fine reading of the territory, the climate, the water, the matter.

Our approach is integrative:
Architecture, landscape, energy and experience form a single coherent system.
This project demonstrates our ability to create exceptional establishments where emotion, environmental performance and operational rigour coexist.
