La Bonne Maison

The project

Client: Maisons Phénix-Géoxia

Areas: 120 sqm habitable
Delivery: 2007

Construction value: €230,000 excl. tax

Built at the initiative of photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, La Bonne Maison was designed by COSTE Architectures and built by the GEOXIA group (Maisons Phénix).

Designed in 2007, "La Bonne Maison" is a prototype meeting the demand for affordable individual housing: a consensual architecture that is geographically adaptable, a style that appeals to all, and a geometry and materials that meet every regulatory requirement. Interior layouts that suit the majority of families: a day area with a kitchen open onto a dining nook, a night area with 3 bedrooms. Warm and bright volumes, with the right temperature without any heating system.

Project overview

Project overview:

"La Bonne Maison" is the home of tomorrow, accessible to all: a consensual architecture that is geographically adaptable, a style that appeals to all, and a geometry and materials that meet every regulatory requirement. Interior layouts that suit the majority of families: a day area with a kitchen open onto a dining nook, a night area with 3 bedrooms. Warm and bright volumes, with the right temperature without any heating system.

Adiabatic envelope:
Reinforced insulation (wall thermal resistance increased by 2× over the regulations in force), complete elimination of thermal bridges, triple-glazed windows (+25% performance vs. standard double glazing), reduction of air permeability of the walls through a membrane.

Renewable energy contribution:  Passive solar through optimal house orientation and glazing layout (68% facing due south), summer overheating controlled by a generous roof overhang, natural lighting in all rooms (except plant rooms), domestic hot water produced by solar panels, dual-flow ventilation on a Canadian well guaranteeing clean and tempered air in both summer and winter. Recovery of energy generated by human activity inside the house. High-performance wood stove. Heating energy consumption = 12 kWh/sqm/year (current standard buildings = 70 kWh/sqm/year). Heating cost = €13 / month
- Sound water management
o Rainwater harvesting for outdoor use,
o Flow-limiting taps,
o Water-saving aerators,
o Thermostatic taps
- Use of renewable materials for construction
o Joinery, façade panels, cladding boards and shutters in timber.
- Accessible to all
o La Bonne Maison is accessible to people with reduced mobility thanks to specific arrangements: lowered door thresholds, all interior doors at least 80 cm wide, corridors 110 cm wide, walk-in showers…

La Bonne Maison is a pragmatic architectural approach for all, with a very low ecological footprint.

COMMERCIAL INFORMATION:
La Bonne Maison is a prototype and also an environmental and performance-based ethic. No construction may be called "Bonne maison" or refer to it if it does not respect this ethic.
PHENIX markets a range inspired by this prototype, called "La maison du Bon Sens". It is important to clarify that neither Agence COSTE Architectures nor Yann Arthus-Bertrand is associated with the design of this range, and they decline any responsibility for the performance, aesthetics or price proposed by PHENIX. PHENIX takes full responsibility for the Maisons du Bon Sens. More information at: http://www.maisondubonsens.com
GICO markets a range of "Bonne Maison" with a timber frame and ecological insulation.
