When architecture serves the memory of territories

When architecture serves the memory of territories
Not all architectural projects are born of a commission.
Some are simply born of an attachment to a place and its history.

It is in this spirit that COSTE Architectures volunteered to take part in the reconstruction of the Saint-Barthélémy Chapel, in the village of Faucon-du-Caire.
For several years, residents and volunteers have been mobilising to bring this discreet building — yet one so deeply rooted in the landscape of Haute-Provence — back to life.
Our contribution consisted in producing the reconstruction drawing of the chapel, drawing on the existing traces and traditional construction logics.
The proportions were studied in keeping with the Golden Ratio, in order to recover the building's original harmony.
We also supported the volunteer teams in their architectural reading of the project and in the accuracy of the rebuilt volumes.

This kind of experience reminds us of one essential thing:
architecture is not limited to contemporary projects or large-scale operations.
It can also be an act of transmission.

Rural chapels, fountains, low walls and paths form the silent weft of our landscapes. Preserving or rebuilding them keeps the memory of territories alive.
For our agency, contributing — even modestly — to the rebirth of this place is a great source of pride.
